Phlox 'Violet Pinwheels' PPAF

Phlox 'Violet Pinwheels' is a new direction in moss phlox breeding, combining the best traits of two lesser known species, Phlox bifida and Phlox kelseyi. Blooming commences in mid-April in northern Illinois, well ahead of many other spring-blooming plants in the garden. The vibrant upturned and notched, purple to violet flowers cover the low growing and slowly spreading plants for four to six weeks. Quite tolerant of saline and alkaline soils. Grow on a well-drained soil and in full sun. For the rock garden, front of the border, and other similar habitats. Developed at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
