Young’s Plant Farm receives recognition for MPS-GAP certification

COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 16, 2018) — MPS honored the achievements of Young’s Plant Farm in the field of sustainability by officially handing over the MPS-GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certificate.

Young’s Plant Farm was established by Gene Young in 1961, and is still a family owned and operated business consisting of three generations. On three locations (in Alabama and North Carolina), with a total of 40 acres indoor and 40 acres outdoor, high quality annuals, perennials, poinsettias and mums are grown and shipped to different large retailers.

The ceremony, which took place at the MPS booth No. 1932 at Cultivate'18, is the crowning of all the work which Young’s Plant Farm initiated in 2014 by starting with the MPS-ABC certification and after this with the MPS-GAP certification. In the past four years, Young’s and MPS have cooperated to use the MPS-ABC certification to further improve sustainability.

After obtaining MPS-ABC the quest toward implementing sustainability practices did not stop. In 2017, Arthij van der Veer, general coordinator of MPS in North and Central America, started working with Young’s Plant Farm on the implementation of MPS-GAP.

“MPS-GAP has provided us with a way to measure our company’s safety, product trace-ability, sustainability and environmental awareness," Drew Young says. "Obtaining this certification has helped our company immediately improve in these areas while also helping us plan for even higher future goals."
