On May 30, Wayne K. Sawyer, president and CEO of Bennett’s Creek Nursery died. He was 59 years old. In a statement, the Suffolk, Va.-based nursery said it "will honor his memory and will continue his vision for the nursery."
He served as a past president of Southern Nursery Association, and served on multiple boards over the years with Virginia Nursery Landscape Association and the former American Nursery & Landscape Association.
The statement continues, "Bennett’s Creek Nursery is committed to honoring the wishes of Sawyer by continuing his vision and moving forward with the business he dedicated his life to and worked so hard to cultivate. We look forward to and will proudly continue serving our customers with the same level of care, attention, and detail that Wayne worked diligently to ensure through his daily leadership, guidance, and mentoring. His family and our extended family of staff and friends, wish to express appreciation for all of the condolences we have received."
Sawyer was named the Nursery Management 2011 Grower of the Year.
