USU extension plans sustainability summit

LOGAN, Utah —The Extension Sustainability Summit will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, through Thursday, Oct. 3, at Newpark Resort, 1456 Newpark Blvd., in Park City, Utah. Utah State University Extension Sustainability and the Western Rural Development Center are the organizers of the summit.

Extension’s sustainability outreach has been a discussion topic for many years. Created in 2004, the National Network of Sustainable Living Education has set out to improve the quality of life and reduce environmental degradation by connecting with individuals in and out of the Extension program. The summit will provide an intimate opportunity to help turn sustainability outreach ideas into action plans.

According to Roslynn Brain, USU sustainable communities Extension specialist, speakers on topics ranging from sustainability camps to energy independent communities will expand the framework of what is possible in sustainability outreach. In addition, several roundtable critical thinking discussions will help design a plan for the future direction of sustainability in Extension.
