Tom Dodd Nurseries, Inc., based in Semmes, Alabama, announced the acquisition of Van Der Giessen Nursery.
The partnership is expected to strengthen production capacity and expand customer offerings, the company said.
"Our goal has always been to grow happiness — through plants, people and partnerships," said owner John Williams Jr. "Van Der Giessen has long been a respected grower with a passion for unique ornamental shrubs, both old and new, which makes this an incredibly natural fit."
History of Tom Dodd Nurseries
Tom Dodd Nurseries was founded in 1920 by the Dodd family. John Williams Jr. purchased the nursery in 2005 and became sole owner in 2014, when he began expanding the operation through the acquisition of neighboring properties such as Kinney Nursery, Old Blackwell Nursery and Tate Greenhouses.
John's children, Whitney and Walt Williams, have since joined the business.
The two nurseries said the partnership allows them to strengthen their shared mission: growing exceptional plants while nurturing community, sustainability and innovation across the region.
"We're proud of where we've come from," Williams said, "but even more excited about where we're headed."
