JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- A select few plants in Onslow County are doing the unexpected: blooming out of season.
“This is the first time I’ve seen this in 31 years,” Gerri Brinson, owner of Onslow Nursery said. “The dogwood trees are supposed to have red berries until April, and they’re blooming in autumn.”
Onslow Nursery also has a flowering cherry tree blooming. Cherry trees usually bloom between February and April, Brinson said.
“My plants are going wild,” she said.
Meredith Croom of Grants Creek Nursery said there are several different spring blooming plants that will bloom back out in the fall due to stress.
