Each year, the editors of Nursery Management magazine survey our readers to check the pulse of the industry. We share the results in our exclusive State of the Industry Report.
Please click here to take the survey. It will take less than 15 minutes.
Your confidential feedback will help us gauge the condition of the market, provide insight to the entire green industry supply chain, and help us deliver the most relevant articles to help you grow and improve your business. We’ll share the survey results in the September issue.
In last year's SOI report, we wrote that many of the so-called “COVID
gardeners” returned to garden centers, driving demand. Growers said they were
planning for sales increases in 2022, but not at the level they experienced in
'20 and '21. We'll have an update on industry-wide sales and revenue in the 2022
SOI report.
We were a bit surprised to learn last year that 30% of respondents planned to
increase production acreage by as much as 49 acres and 20% planned to add more
than 50 acres. We'll see how that worked out for them in this year's survey.
It was refreshing to see growers once again raised prices in 2021. However, 16%
said they expected profits in 2022 to decrease, likely due to the rising costs
of inputs. We'll see if they were right.
We've been hearing that 2022 was a mixed year. Some growers had solid sales and
made a bit of profit, others overproduced and misjudged the market and were
left with too much supply. We'll find out how much labor and supply chain
disruptions have affected the industry, which crops proved to be the most
profitable for growers, and much, much more.
Please take the survey by Aug. 16. Thank you for your support!
