MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- In December, Skagit Gardens decided to create some holiday fun and excitement. Employees orchestrated a "flash mob planting" to spruce up city planters.
One of the plants they used was Helleborus Jacob, a tenacious perennial that will flower through the blustery winter season.
Mayor Jill Boudreau was on hand offering encouraging words to the volunteer crew of employees, shop owners and Master Gardeners, as well as well-known cooking personality and local community advocate, Graham Kerr, who wielded his own personal trowel.
“This is the biggest most heartfelt thank you I can give," said Nancy Springer, owner of the gift shop River and Main. "I have been a shop owner for seven years and morale downtown was getting pretty low. You swooped in and gave us back joy for the holidays and the New Year.”
