The Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund is announcing an increase in this year’s awards to $2,000 for each scholarship to be awarded in 2022 (up from $1,500 in recent years) with the projection to still award up to 12 total scholarships.
All eligible horticulture students in their Junior, Senior or Graduate years of study are encouraged to apply for this year’s scholarship. Students may be attending institutions across the United States but must be residents of the 16 Southeastern States (see below). The deadline for application is May 27, 2022. The Scholarship Selection Committee will make its selections by August 1, 2022 and recipients will be notified soon thereafter.
Since its inception, the fund has awarded over $576,000 in scholarships to horticultural students and today the Fund’s endowment is over $1 million dollars.
Created in 1989 by the Southern Nursery Association (SNA), The Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund is a 501 (c) 3 corporation providing scholarships to students who are residents of the sixteen southeastern states SNA represents – Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia – pursuing a career in horticulture. The scholarship is dedicated to the late Sidney B. Meadows, a Past President of the Southern Nursery Association, who was an avid supporter of student scholarships and believed that providing aid for students was an important way to ensure the growth and development of all facets of the industry. The fund derives its income from individual and corporate contributions and is governed by the Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund board of directors.
