It’s relatively quiet in the world of corporate bankruptcy, for now. 2009’s filing frenzy peaked with June’s total combined asset figure of $104 billion and July’s total filing county of 21 public company Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcies. During August, these numbers dwindled to $50 billion in assets and a total of 13 public filings, according to bankruptcydata.com. (Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcies in August 2008 totaled $4 billion. What a difference a year makes.) Through Sept. 15, 5 public companies have filed bankruptcy with assets totally $976 million.
