AmericanHort's Plug & Cutting '18 Conference, planned for next week in Charlotte, has been canceled due to Hurricane Florence. AmericanHort announced the event's cancelation on Sept. 12. The event was scheduled for Sept. 17-19.
According to an email sent out to attendees, the event is being canceled "out of an abundance of caution for our members, attendees, and sponsors and out of great respect for the people of North Carolina whose lives are to be disrupted by hurricane Florence."
AmericanHort will be refunding both attendees and exhibitors with refunds being completed in 7-10 business days. To cancel hotel reservations, attendees will need to contact the Sheraton Hotel in Charlotte -the host hotel of the event - directly.
According to the email, AmericanHort will be looking to reschedule the event. The last Plug & Cutting Conference took place in 2016 in California. No further details were given for a new date and/or location in the cancelation email. In an interview with Greenhouse Management, AmericanHort senior vice president Craig Regelbrugge said the hope is to hold to the event in Charlotte and to reschedule it before the end of Feb. 2019.
Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall in the Carolinas on late Thursday and into Friday. According to meteorologists, 10 trillion gallons of rain water are expected to fall on the region. Charlotte is located outside the tropical storm danger region, according to the U.S. Weather Service. But the city could see up to two feet of rain fall before the storm passes, according to The Charlotte Observer.
