Brian Swingle from the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation said to be aware of a possible scam being perpetrated in the green industry.
A grower received a call form a person claiming to be from the U.S. Office of Compliance and Safety, stating that the nursery was out of compliance with OSHA. The caller said the nursery could order all of their posters from the “office” for $189.
Fortunately the nursery owner didn’t bite, and told the caller it sounded like a scam. When Googled, the name of this official sounding office is a company in Clearwater, Fla. (http://uscco.us/)
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection contacted OSHA personnel, who declared it a scam. Reminder: all necessary state and federal posters are available for free on the internet. Companies do put them together on one big poster for a fee, but this sales tactic is illegal and a scam, says Swingle.
