OnyxPro approved for B-and-B

APHIS approved the fire ant insecticide for dip treatment for containerized nursery stock.

PHILADELPHIA -- FMC Professional Solutions recently announced that its product OnyxPro insecticide is approved for dip treatment for containerized balled and burlapped nursery stock in accordance with the USDA Imported Fire Ant Quarantine Program. The application will provide control within four weeks followed by 16 weeks of certification.

OnyxPro is already labeled for soil incorporation, as a topical application, or as a high volume drench application for control of Imported Fire Ants (IFA). These applications, approved by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), include use in balled and containerized nursery-grown ornamental trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, conifers, Christmas trees, bushes and non-bearing fruit and nut trees.

“With the newly approved application, nursery producers have twice as many options in treating their stock under the Imported Fire Ant Quarantine Program,” said Catherine Bernard, Insecticide Brand Marketing Manager for FMC. “Previously, only one product was approved by APHIS for this usage but required multiple treatments.”

OnyxPro may also be used as a broadcast treatment on sod. When used on sod as part of the USDA Fire Ant Quarantine and according to the label, control will be achieved in four weeks followed by 16 weeks of certification.

APHIS regulates the domestic movement of all nursery stock and grass sod from IFA-infested areas to uninfested areas of the U.S. as a way to limit the artificial spread of Imported Fire Ants. Nursery producers must comply with all regulations.
