Ohio Green Industry Association announces recipients of 2023 Annual Professional Awards

The Ohio Green Industry Association (OGIA) is recognizing and celebrating the recipients of the 2023 OGIA Annual Professional Awards for their outstanding contributions to the horticultural and landscaping industry. 

Distinguished Contribution Award: Andy Doesburg, Berns' Greenhouse & Garden Center, Inc.

Andy Doesburg, a two-time OGIA president, is known for his lifelong dedication to all things horticulture. Working for Thornton Landscape for many years, he is now an integral part of Berns' Greenhouse & Garden Center, Inc. With his unwavering commitment, he has set the bar for the green industry. Andy has also been a key player on several OGIA committees, proving he's all about helping the industry grow and thrive.

OGIA Service Award: Devon Stanley, Benchmark Landscape Construction, Inc.

Devon Stanley, an OGIA past president, is a dedicated individual whose unwavering commitment to the OGIA has made a profound impact. Over the years, he has generously donated his time, resources and talents to further the goals of OGIA, consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. Devon’s service on various boards and committees within the OGIA showcases his passion and dedication. His invaluable contributions have not only enriched the association but have also fostered growth and development within the industry, making him a true pillar of support for OGIA's mission and vision.

Educator and Public Service Award: Bill Dawson

Bill Dawson's recognition is a testament to his outstanding contributions. Retiring from the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio, Bill dedicated his career to nurturing community gardens and championing public education. His commitment to fostering a love for horticulture and the environment among the public is inspiring, making him a true advocate for positive change in our communities.

Young Professionals of the Year: Liz and Jared Hughes, Groovy Plants Ranch

The entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach of Liz and Jared Hughes have transformed Groovy Plants Ranch into a thriving enterprise. Liz and Jared's passion, vision and commitment to growth have set them apart as emerging leaders in the industry.

The recipients have demonstrated unwavering dedication, innovation and a commitment to excellence, leaving a lasting mark on the green industry. They'll be honored on the first day of the upcoming midwestGREEN conference, on Nov. 6, 2023, during the awards luncheon.

OGIA leads, promotes and facilitates the success and growth of green industry businesses. More than 1,300 members comprise nursery stock growers, garden center operators, landscape contractors, landscape design and grounds maintenance firms, arborists, students enrolled in landscape and horticulture programs in the state and allied suppliers. The association has represented Ohio’s vital green industry for more than 100 years.
