National NeighborWoods Month is the Alliance for Community Trees’ (ACT) annual community service campaign. In October 2008, the program resulted in 412 volunteer events delivered by 118 local partners in major markets across the country. Campaign partners planted 33,000 trees, engaged 18,000 volunteers and educated the public about sustainability through education and media outreach.

ACT is a national alliance of organizations dedicated to improving the health and livability of cities through tree planting and care. With 160 affiliates in 41 states and Canada, ACT engages volunteers to improve the environment in urban areas, where 83% of people live. ACT's local affiliates have planted 14.9 million trees in city neighborhoods nationwide, with help from 4.3 million volunteers.
