The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Saudi Arabia announced that this year’s World Environment Day will focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.
“World Environment Day, marked annually on 5 June, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972,” according to the UN Environment Programme website. “Over the past five decades, [World Environment Day] has grown to be one of the largest global platforms for environmental outreach. Tens of millions of people participate online and through in-person activities, events and actions around the world.”
The nursery industry continues to support the environment by planting more trees to combat climate change, improving irrigation efficiency, investing in plant research to conserve water and incorporating Integrated Pest Management programs (IPM) to reduce pesticide use.
