North Texas could face Stage IV water restrictions

More than one million residents across the North Texas area could face Stage 4 water restrictions in early 2012.

The North Texas Municipal Water District says the upgraded restrictions are possible because of the persistent drought and low water supply. The area’s primary water source, Lake Lavon, is half empty.

Stage 3 water restrictions went into effect Nov. 1, 2011. They limit outdoor watering a great deal, but in Stage 4 restrictions, residents and businesses will only be allowed to water foundations and trees.
The board will decide in late January whether Stage 4 restrictions will be implemented. The Texas Nursery and Landscape Association is asking area members to attend the Jan. 26 meeting at 505 E. Brown Street, Wylie, Texas.

The district serves Allen, Farmersville, Forney, Frisco, Garland, McKinney, Mesquite, Plano, Princeton, Richardson, Rockwall, Royce City and Wylie.
