OLATHE, Kan. -- The Kansas State University Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service is running the Kansas High Tunnels Bus Tour. The tour takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 31.
Attendees will learn about high tunnel production from some of the most experienced fruit and vegetable growers in Kansas. As part of the tour, attendees will visit several farms, including the Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center.
The bus tour is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Agriculture and is supported by a Specialty Crop Block Grant. Tickets for the tour are available for $20 per person (lunch included) for 50 participants. If there is enough demand, K-State Research and Extension may rent an additional bus to allow for up to 100 registrants. However, if this happens, the cost will increase to $30 per person.

Olathe Research Center (35230 W. 135th St., Olathe)
4-season and 3-season tunnels, 1/2 acre multi-bay tunnel, Haygrove solo tunnel, tomato grafting research; tomato variety trial, AAS variety trial, blackberries, blueberries, dwarf sour cherries.
Gieringer’s Orchard (39675 W. 183rd St., Edgerton)
Five 4-season high tunnels with assorted summer vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons) and raspberries; peach orchard, blackberries, roadside market/ U-pick operation.
Wohletz Farm Fresh (1831 N. 1100 Rd., Lawrence)
Tomatoes, grafted tomatoes; plasticulture strawberries, open-field vegetables, U-pick operation.
Moon on the Meadow Farm (1515 E. 11th St., Lawrence)
Spring crops (weather dependent), tomatoes and other summer vegetables; 40-acres certified organic production, flour milling, Growing Growers Apprenticeship “host farm.”
Pendleton’s Country Market (1446 E. 1850 Rd., Lawrence)
Tomatoes and other summer vegetables, cut flowers; U-pick asparagus and other vegetables, hydroponic greenhouse tomatoes, roadside market.
