NJ Plants announces 2018 education schedule

The 2018 New Jersey Plants Landscape and Nursery Trade Show takes place Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 at The New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, N.J. Educational sessions and credits have been announced for  the eighth annual NJ Plants show.

This year's education schedule includes four customized program tracks that are based on feedback from past attendees. Classes will be scheduled on both days from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., 11 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

• Pesticide Recertification Track
• Business Development Tools
• Hot Topics in the Industry
• Simply Spanish: Recertification Topics that will help your business

Here are some highlights from the educational sessions:
• “Tree Killers on the Loose” by Dr. Neil Hendrickson: The emerald ash borer is only one of several potentially lethal insect and disease pests that threaten New Jersey’s trees. This talk will discuss a number of existing and potential threats to our trees, how to identify them, and what we can do about them.
• "Labor Issues -- What Can You Do About Labor?" (Panel Discussion): Arnulfo Hinojosa, Vice President of FEWA (Federation of Employers & Workers of America) and Kurt Alstede, Onwer of Alstede Farms, LLC will provide insight and experiences on finding a labor force for your business. The pros and cons of H-2A and H-2B will be discussed and other alternatives will be explored in this interactive panel discussion that you won’t want to miss.  
• "Simply Spanish – Recertification Topics That Will Help Your Business" by Raul Cabrera, including: BMP’s for Irrigation, Fertilization and Soils in Landscape Gardening; Principles of Pruning Plants and Trees; and Applications of Plant Biology in Landscape Gardening.
• "Invasive Plants" by Bruce Crawford: Are you aware that there is a "Do Not Plant" list? Join us for a talk and demonstration on plants that are and are not invasive. Using actual plants, we will point out the genus of each that should not be targeted as invasive. We will also discuss how invasive “do not plant” lists will affect the way you do business and what can be done about it.
