The 27th Manor View Farm and The Perennial Farm Education Seminar takes place Feb. 4, and the keynote speaker will be Neville Stein.
Based in the United Kingdom, Stein is a horticultural business consultant with nearly five decades of experience. His clients include the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The Royal Horticultural Society, The Horticultural Trades Association, Longwood Gardens and many privately-owned nursery businesses.
The event takes place at Martin's Valley Mansion, 594 Cranbrook Road, Cockeysville, Maryland. The educational program begins at 9 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. Attending costs $110, which includes lunch, and credits are available for ASLA, APLD, ISA and pesticide.
Stein has been writing the "Across the Pond" column for Nursery Management since January 2025, in which he shares what he’s learned in nearly 50 years of U.K. horticulture. He will lead two sessions at the seminar: “You Can’t Manage What You Don’t Measure: Understanding and Tracking Costs in Landscaping” and “Current Trends in UK Garden Design.”
Other speakers on the program include Nancy Krautmann, director of communications at J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., who will discuss the how and why of urban tree cultivar development, Dr. Paula Shrewsbury of the University of Maryland extension on how to find and respond to invasive insects, Emilie Carter, associate landscape architect with Phyto Studio on creating an ecologically rich garden and Sam Hoadley, manager of Horticultural Research at Mt. Cuba Center, on top native plant performers.
