MSU Extension and MNLA offer weed control workshop

The program will be taught by Dr. Hannah Mathers and other OSU hort experts.

WEST OLIVE, Mich. -- Michigan State University Extension is partnering with the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association to offer an in depth weed control education session on Jan. 29. The workshop will occur at the Ottawa County- Fillmore Administration Bldg., 12220 Fillmore St., West Olive, Mich.

The program will be taught by Dr. Hannah Mathers and Luke Case of Ohio State University and Randy Zondag from the OSU Extension. When waging war against weeds, the first rule of battle is to know your enemy. At this workshop attendees will participate in hands-on Weed ID in order to learn the life cycles of the weeds as well as the chemicals that control them. The workshop will also discuss controls for difficult field weeds and woody invasive plants.

Attendees will also hear up-to-date research results from trials that have been conducted in Michigan and Ohio on:

• Container weeds vascular and non-vascular control
• Liverwort control products
• Field and landscape weed control
• Christmas tree trials

Finally, attendees will end their day by learning new methods for herbicide applications using liquids, which can increase business efficiency and improve coverage.

All Weed Short Course Seminars have been applied for 5 MDARD Pesticide Recertification Credits in Core (Priv. & Comm.), 3A, 3B or 6. Prices are on a per class basis: $35 for a MNLA Member and $55 for non-members.
