Could Georgia be facing major drought conditions similar to what the state encountered during the mid-2000s? State climatologist David Stooksbury reports that over the last 3 month drought conditions have expanded to include most of Georgia. The north central and northeast parts of the state are rated as abnormally dry.
The fall has been very dry with most of the state receiving less than 70% of normal rain. Many locations in the coastal plain and coastal Georgia have received 50% or less of normal rain over the past 3 months.
Stooksbury said fall and spring climate outlooks do not hold much promise for drought recovery. Climatic conditions are expected to be warmer than normal an drier than normal through spring.
