The Morris Arboretum has completed the $12.5 million first phase of its new horticulture center.
The Horticultural Center at Bloomfield Farm promises to offer visitors an education both in natural science, but also in how sustainable architecture can have an everyday impact on the trees and plants showcased at the vast Morris Arboretum.
The Horticultural Center was paid for by an aggressive capital campaign — the arboretum’s largest to date. But it’s only the first phase. Morris Arboretum officials are starting a second campaign to raise another $18 million for an education center on the same Flourtown parcel, which is across Northwestern Avenue from the Morris Arboretum’s main gardens on the Philadelphia of the street.
“We have a history of audacious plans,” said Paul Meyer, who has been director of the Morris Arboretum since 1991.
