McGregor offers organic herb cuttings

McGregor Plant Sales in Carlsbad, Calif., has begun to offer USDA certified organic unrooted herb cuttings to U.S. and Canadian growers. The availability of the cuttings means growers no longer have to hold their own mother stock in organically certified houses for 12 months before being able to ship.

The cuttings are produced by Florexpo in Costa Rica. Florexpo consulted with a California Certified Organic Farmers auditor who wrote a production and traceability manual and performed a mock audit. A Costa Rican auditor was invited to inspect the Florexpo facility and granted certification in September 2007.

Florexpo’s organic production requires absolutely zero procurement of pest control or fertilization chemicals. Pest control is achieved in fully enclosed greenhouses with beneficial insects, beneficial fungi, organic fumigation and strict adherence to sanitary requirements.
