Mark Weathington to speak on Far East plant hunting

The director of the JC Raulston Arboretum will speak Dec. 15 at Peckerwood Garden in Hempstead, Texas.


Japan, China, and Taiwan are some of the richest areas for collecting plants suitable for western gardens.   

Attendees can join Mark Weathington Dec. 15 at Peckerwood Garden in Hempstead, Texas. for a tour of the plants, places, and people he has encountered on collecting trips throughout the East.

Mark Weathington is the director of the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University and an experienced plant hunter. He travels extensively searching for new plants to diversify the American landscape and lecturing on a variety of topics in horticulture to further the arboretum’s vision of “Planning and Planting a Better World.” 

His career in public horticulture has also included the Norfolk Botanical Garden where he served as director of horticulture and the Atlanta Botanical Garden as a horticulturist. He has recently completed Gardening in the South: The Complete Homeowner's Guide for Timber Press and writes a column for the Raleigh based News & Observer newspaper.

There will be a tour at 10 a.m. and a presentation at 11 a.m. that will last about an hour.
