Lowe’s and Home Depot announce 4Q results

Sales for the fiscal year declined for both companies.


Lowe’s Companies Inc. (NYSE: LOW) reported sales for the fourth quarter increased 1.8 percent to $10.2 billion, up from $10.0 billion in 4Q 2008. For fiscal 2009, sales declined 2.1 percent to $47.2 billion. Comparable store sales for the fourth quarter declined 1.6 percent and declined 6.7 percent for fiscal 2009.
The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) reported 4Q sales of $14.6 billion, a 0.3 percent decrease from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008. Sales for fiscal 2009 were $66.2 billion, a decline of 7.2 percent from fiscal 2008. Total company comparable store sales for the fourth quarter grew 1.2 percent. Comparable store sales for U.S. stores were negative 1.1 percent. Total company comparable store sales for the year declined 6.6 percent, and comps for U.S. stores were negative 6.2 percent for the year.
