Scholarships available to southeast hort students

Twelve $1,500 awards will be given to applicants living in the sixteen southeastern states.

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund is reminding junior, senior or graduate level horticulture students (who are residents of the 16 southeastern states) that it is accepting scholarship applications for 2016 awards. Industry members are asked to advise all eligible students of the availability of this scholarship award. All horticultural students who are eligible are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship recipients are determined through a competitive application process, administered by a selection committee, based on academics, determination, demonstrated interest in the horticulture industry and financial need. Recipients are chosen from a pool of dozens of well-qualified applicants.

Eligibility requirements and the application is available from the fund’s website (www.sbmsef.org).

The deadline for application is May 27. The Scholarship Selection Committee will make final selections by July 6 and recipients will be notified soon thereafter. Awards will be made on August 31, in Athens, Georgia, at the SNA Research Conference Luncheon during the new SEGreen.

Danny Summers, executive vice president of the fund said, “Last year, the fund awarded a total of $18,000 to twelve students. This year, we are projecting to again award twelve $1,500 scholarships. We are very proud of our accomplishment in building the fund over the past 27 years. Since its inception, the fund has awarded over $473,000 in scholarships and today the fund’s balance is over $800,000. We would like to express our appreciation to all of our industry for supporting the fund’s growth and development and willingness to help us spread the word about this beneficial scholarship.”
