Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. announced the fifth and sixth introduction in its cocktail series of Geum: Geum x ‘Banana Daiquiri’ and Geum x ‘Cosmopolitan.’
These join ‘Alabama Slammer,’ ‘Mai Tai,’ ‘Sangria’ and 'Tequila Sunrise’ in the series. ‘Banana Daiquiri’ is a fresh lemony yellow color held on fuzzy, green stems while ‘Cosmopolitan’ has a unique color combination of creamy white drenched in rose-pink edges on single and semidouble flowers, all on burgundy red stems.
These new geums start blooming in late April or May and continue three to four weeks or more. The short, clumping plants reach around 10 inches tall and wide with the stems reaching 18 inches tall or more.
The plants prefer a moist to well drained soil in full sun. The foliage is semi-evergreen. These hybrid plants are longer lived than the older chiloense varieties of Geum. These plants are hardy to USDA Hardiness Zones 4-9.
These are cool-season plants, so they can be planted in early spring or early fall.
