Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), the research affiliate of the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), has awarded the 2010 Spring Meadow Nursery Scholarship of $1,500 to Emily Silverman, North Carolina State University senior.
Dale and Liz Deppe of Spring Meadow Nursery in Grand Haven, Mich., initiated The Spring Meadow Scholarship Fund in 1999. This fund is dedicated to helping aspiring students from across the country obtain a degree in horticulture. It is also Spring Meadow’s way of giving back, and sharing with others their passion for plants and the nursery industry.
The 2010 Muggets Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Colorado State University sophomore, Daniel Buelow of Lafayette, Colorado.
An informal group called the Mugget Growers of America (MGA) began in 1981 as a social, educational and fundraising group. Each year MGA participants meet at the ANLA Clinic to discuss important plant issues while contributing to the Muggets scholarship fund. MGA supporters hope to help aspiring students from across the country obtain a degree in horticulture with this scholarship.
