‘HGC Silvermoon’ is a member of Yoder Brothers’ Gold Collection, which was bred by Heuger-Blumen. Flowers are snowy white fading to dusky rose. Flowers appear in January on this very hardy perennial. Plants have two sales windows -- in fall as perennials (green plants) and in spring as potted flowering plants.
‘HGC Silvermoon’ has a short, compact habit. The very uniform plants mature to 8-10 inches tall and 10-12 inches wide in the garden.
Plant liners in late April or the beginning of May outside when there is no danger of freezing. Liners should be planted deeply so that the crown is buried, as this will increase branching. Plants should not be allowed to wilt; keep roots moist but not wet. Plants can dry slightly between waterings. Shade is beneficial in very warm climates. However, shade is not necessary during forcing indoors, during winter production or overwintering.
This is a low-energy plant to produce. Bring plants into the greenhouse in November or before temperatures reach 35°F or lower and keep in a frost-free environment. Temperature range recommended for flowering is 35°F-40°F. Plants flower naturally in late January. They’ll flower as warm as 64°F as long as they receive a four- to six-week chilling period.
