Harrell’s acquires Florida peat bog

Acquisition of peat bog enables company to add peat and peat-based mixes to its product lineup

Harrell’s in Lakeland, Fla., has acquired a Florida peat bog containing over 9 million cubic yards of certified, nematode-free, 100% organic peat. The company will offer greenhouse, nursery and specialty crop growers premium peat moss and peat-based growing mixes. Since the company owns the bog it controls the harvesting process and the ingredients going into its mixes.
“We already supply Harrell’s branded fertilizers, foliar spray adjuvants and wetting agents; when we saw the exceptional quality of this peat, it made sense for us to expand our offerings to include Harrell’s branded peat and peat-based mixes,” said Rick Helpingstine, president of Harrell’s Horticultural Products and vice president of Harrell LLC.
