Here’s something new to blame if your travel on I-95 in southeastern Connecticut is delayed in the next few weeks: Gypsy moths.
That’s right, those voracious gypsy moth caterpillars that have devoured the leaves of thousands of trees in eastern Connecticut are behind the closing of a southbound lane on I-95 in Old Lyme.
The state Department of Transportation says the hungry insects have damaged so many trees along a stretch of I-95 that a special operation is needed to remove “significantly damaged and compromised trees.”
