Growers urged to support Form 1099 repeal

The Small Business Paperwork Reduction Act has been introduced

ANLA is asking growers to contact senators and representatives about the Form 1099 repeal.

Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE) and Representative Dan Lungren (R-CA), have re-introduced their repeal bills, S.18, the Small Business Paperwork Reduction Act, and H.R. 4, the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act. Almost everybody on Capitol Hill concedes the new requirement is a bad idea, said Craig Regelbrugge, vice president of government relations and research at ANLA.

On February 2nd, 2011 the Senate passed the Stabenow (D-MI) amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill that would repeal the Form 1099 expansion. The amendment passed by a margin of 81-17 and the language closely mirrored Senator Johanns’ (R-NE) original bill.

While this is a positive development, the procedural path to final passage through the House is uncertain. At this time, it’s not clear what vehicle House Republican leadership will use to repeal the 1099 requirement, Regelbrugge said.
