From HortiDaily:
MorePlatz has created a new niche concept consisting of a hotel combined with a horticultural experience. The project, commissioned by, among others, InnovatieNetwerk, will become a reality in South East Amsterdam.
The InnovatieNetwerk (Innovation Network) of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, along with two innovation-oriented organizations in horticulture (SIGN) and hospitality (stirr) initiated a surprising project linking two sectors: GreenNest. It is a very "green" hotel that includes a horticultural experience.
The hotel will have about two hundred rooms on 8,300 square metres; the experience will cover 10,000 square metres. The concept has been commissioned by promoters Caro Baumann and Johannes Schele of MorePlatz.
Interactive experience
The peculiarity of GreenNest's concept lies, according to Baumann and Schele, in three elements; to begin with, the use of plants and crops not just for décor, but as the very essence of the interactive experience. Visitors experience the sensory beauty of plants, but are also given the chance to interact, for example, by planting flowers or picking tea.
The products and raw materials used for the décor and furnishings come from different continents and habitats. The origin and values of Dutch horticulture are also shown and explained. Each product's economic and cultural importance within the horticultural industry are outlined, explains MorePlatz.
The experience is enhanced by moving away from the traditional hotel room. The rooms are designed as "lodges" that "float" in the hotel. Instead of following a common standard, these "lodges" are made in a way that is consistent with the surrounding habitat. The lodges, placed right under the floor of the upper layer, offer great views.
