Great Plant Picks adds to favorites list

The Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden updated its Great Plant Picks, a selection of plants geared for the Pacific Northwest. Each year the garden chooses dozens of plants, from perennials and bulbs to hebes and vines.

Selections include:

Perennials and bulbs

Agapanthus ‘Storm Cloud’ (lily-of-the-Nile).

Athyrium ‘Ghost (ghost fern).

Ipheion uniflorum ‘Wisley Blue’ (spring starflower).

Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’ (coneflower).

Geraniums

‘Anne Thomson.’

Brookside.’

‘Gerwat.’

‘Patricia.’

Astrantia

‘Buckland.’

‘Claret.’

‘Roma.’

‘Ruby Wedding.’

Selection criteria include ornamental value, ease of care and pest and disease resistance.

Plants are also judged on adaptability to a variety of soils, lack of invasive qualities, multiple seasons of interest and no requirement for excessive moisture, except aquatic plants.
