On Aug. 23, Jules Janick, who is the James Troop Distinguished Professor and currently serves as director of the Center for New Crops and Plant Products, was officially dedicated with a garden at Purdue University. The Jules Janick Horticulture Garden honors his contributions to the school’s horticulture program. His involvement with the program covers nearly 70 years.
The garden will serve as an educational tool for horticulture students learning about plant identification, said Michael Dana, a professor of horticulture. According to Dana, Janick shaped the school’s horticulture program into an incredible curriculum.
“Jules has an international reputation in the world of horticulture,” Dana said. “He gained this stature as editor of several major horticulture reference journals and expanded it through his teaching and research program.”
The Jules Janick Horticulture Garden is located at Marsteller Street next to the Horticulture Building.
“I am honored that this jewel box will forever be known as the Jules Janick Horticulture Garden,” said Janick.
