The Florida Department of Health has chosen five new marijuana growers in the last few weeks.
One of the newly chosen growers, Treadwell Nursery, which lost out in the initial round of grower licenses in November 2015, won state approval to legally grow marijuana and manufacture medicines from the drug.
A space about half the size of a football field will be dedicated to growing marijuana at Treadwell, where in addition to foliage plants, the family’s main crop is Norfolk Island pine trees.
Now, with the addition of thousands of marijuana plants, the business will be hiring 50 employees, including some to help with security and tightly oversee production.
