Farwest Show to spotlight new varieties for 2016

Next year's offerings include perennials, shrubs, conifers and more.

Featuring a spectrum of new market introductions, the 2015 Farwest Show, August 27-29 in Portland, Oregon, will display 49 plants in the New Varieties Showcase, a yearly mainstay on the show floor.

17 companies from North America, the Netherlands and Canada have submitted material that covers perennials, shrubs, conifers, shade and flowering trees and edibles being introduced for 2016.

This year’s entries will display new features, improved performance in production environments and landscape, compact sizes, enhanced disease resistance, performance in urban settings and drought tolerance. In particular for garden retailers, this year’s showcase carries several choices for foliage, blooms and seasonal interest.

As in past years, a team of retailers, landscape designers, and growers will evaluate the varieties and award the top
picks. In addition, visitors to the Showcase will select their favorites for the People’s Choice Awards, announced after
the show.

“Year after year attendees gather in the New Varieties Showcase at Farwest to evaluate, photograph and discuss the latest and greatest new selections to hit market,” said Crystal Cady, event and member services manager at the Oregon Association of Nurseries, producers of the Farwest Show. “This year’s chosen selections are sure to generate buzz across the market as they are some of the hottest new varieties making their debut into consumers’ hands. We’re excited to have so many cool new plants as a part of the show and can’t wait for attendees to be ‘wowed’ by the display created.”
