Extend amaryllis sales with staggered flowers

 

Offer early-, mid- and late-flowering amaryllis to stretch the selling season. Although the flower schedules are not precise, the staggered flowering times can be incorporated into a marketing program.

Early-season varieties

* Single flower: ‘Orange Sovereign,’ ‘Lucky Strike,’ ‘Apple Blossom,’ ‘Minerva,’ ‘Roma,’ ‘Vera’ and ‘Mount Blanc.’

* Double flower: ‘Lady Jane,’ ‘Mary Lou,’ ‘Aphrodite’ and ‘Pasadena.’

* Gracilis varieties: ‘Donau,’ ‘Scarlet Baby,’ ‘Giraffe,’ ‘Amoretta’ and ‘Pamela.’

Midseason varieties

* Single flower: ‘Red Lion,’ ‘Lemon Lime,’ ‘Liberty,’ ‘Royal Velvet,’ ‘Hercules,’ ‘Wonderland,’ ‘Rilona’ and ‘Picotee.’

* Double flower: ‘Double Record,’ ‘Unique,’ ‘Blossom Peacock’ and ‘White Peacock.’

* Gracilis varieties: ‘Papillio.’

Late-season varieties

* Single flower: ‘Las Vegas,’ ‘Clown,’ ‘Piquant,’ ‘Toronto,’ ‘Vlammenspel,’ ‘Happy Memory’ and ‘Charisma.’

* Double flower: ‘Promise,’ ‘Dancing Queen,’ ‘Flaming Peacock’ and ‘ Andes .’
