The ash tree-killing emerald ash borer has been discovered on Madison's South Side, a sign that the bug has now infested all parts of the city.
The city's Forestry Section found the first South Side infestation in Doncaster Park, 4341 Doncaster Drive. This goes with infestations found on the North Side at Warner Park, on the East Side along the interstate corridor, and on the West Side along the border with Middleton.
"While it's disappointing to have found the emerald ash borer in a new location within the city, it's not surprising, given the ease in which this pest can hitchhike with the help of humans," said Parks Division superintendent Eric Knepp in a news release on Tuesday.
The emerald ash borer was first discovered in Madison in 2013, but has been in the Midwest for about 10 years.
