David Austin honored

David Austin named 2010 Great Rosarian of the World

David Austin, famed British hybridizer of English Garden roses, has been named the 2010 Great Rosarian of the World by the Huntington Library, Art Collections, San Marino Botanical Gardens and New York’s Manhattan Rose Society. Each January and June, the groups present Great Rosarians of the World lecture series. Now in its 10th year, this bi-coastal event is designed to recognize those who have contributed significantly to the rose world.
“It was roses like ‘Graham Thomas’, ‘Mary Rose’ and ‘Abraham Darby’ that launched David Austin onto the world stage,” said. Clair Martin, event organizer. “Now, nearly a half-century later, his English garden roses are popular worldwide for their contribution to garden landscaping as well as to the rose garden.”
In a separate award, the David Austin Rose Garden, a two-acre garden adjacent to the Austin nurseries in Albrighton, England, was inducted into the GROW Rose Garden Hall of Fame.
