Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) will introduce an amendment today to the FY2010 Interior Appropriations Bill that would explicitly and temporarily exempt farms from EPA regulation under the Clean Air Act with regards to carbon emissions. Currently, funds in the FY2010 Interior Appropriations bill could be utilized by EPA regulate carbon emissions from all stationary sources. Though there are some other amendments that would eliminate funding for EPA’s Clean Air Act regulation for all stationary sources (power plants, manufacturing, etc.), Senator Feinstein’s office has asked that we support her amendment that would specifically exempt agriculture, which includes nursery and greenhouse production, for the life of the Interior Appropriations bill.
This vote is scheduled for later today, Sept. 24th, or tomorrow, so your immediate action is requested. Please take a moment to send your Senator a message, requesting that they vote in favor of temporarily exempting family farms from EPA regulation under the Clean Air Act.
