Cercis canadensis 'Carolina Sweetheart', submitted by Joh. Stolwijk & Zn. from Boskoop, won the Plantarium Press Award in the Garden category. In the Concepts category, the award went to Pottburri, submitted by F.N. Kempen from Mijndrecht.
The jury was unanimous about Pottburri, a brand of biodegradable pots that respond to the demand for non-plastic products. The Cercis canadensis 'Carolina Sweetheart,' with variegated foliage, was a favorite of many of the judges
Second and third place
In the category Garden plants, eight entries were judged by the jury. Second place went to the Acer palmatum ‘Extravaganza’, submitted by Van Son & Koot B.V. from Kaatsheuvel. Helianthus SUNbelievable Brown Eyed Girl, submitted by F.N. Kempen from Mijndrecht came third. There were five entries in the category Concepts. Zero Plastic Tray by Colour Your Garden from Boskoop came second, and Colour Your Table by De Jong Plant B.V. from Boskoop won third place.
Judging
The jury for the Press Award consisted of 17 journalists, representing the following countries: Germany, England, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden.
Clematis Little Lemons has been voted Best Novelty of Plantarium 2019. The plant was submitted by Clematiskwekerij J. Van Zoest from Boskoop.
Little Lemons is a breakthrough in Clematis cultivation. The plant produces a compact and bushy growth and is non-climbing. Little Lemons blooms abundantly with pale yellow bell-shaped nodding flowers and can be planted in borders and pots as well as hanging baskets. The Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (KVBC) jury called it unique and innovative.
Gold awards
Apart from the best novelty, two other plants were awarded gold by the jury. Buddleia Blue Sarah and Hydrangea paniculata Whitelight, both submitted by Kwekerij Lendert De Vos BV from Reeuwijk, received a gold medal.For more information on Plantarium, click here.
