FedEx and UPS are increasing ground shipping rates for 2013.
Shipping rates for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery will increase by a net average of 4.9 percent effective Jan. 7. UPS Ground services are also increasing 4.9 percent. UPS' new rates went into effect Dec. 31.
The FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery full average rate increase of 5.9 percent will be partially offset by adjusting the fuel price threshold at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by one percentage point. FedEx SmartPost rates also will change.
Details of surcharge changes and new rates for FedEx Ground are available at fedex.com/us/2013rates.
FedEx previously announced on Sept. 18 that it will increase shipping rates for FedEx Express by a net average of 3.9 percent for U.S. domestic, U.S. export and U.S. import services also effective Jan. 7. FedEx Freight implemented a 6.9 percent general rate increase on July 9.
UPS' new prices include an average net increase of 4.5 percent on all UPS Air and U.S. origin international services and 4.9 percent on UPS Ground services.
The rate increase for UPS Air and International Services is based on a 6.5 percent average increase in the base rate, less a two percentage point reduction to the Air and International fuel surcharge table. The rate increase for UPS Ground services is based on a 5.9 percent average increase in the base rate, less a one percentage point reduction to the Ground fuel surcharge table.
Additionally, UPS Next Day Air Freight, UPS 2nd Day Air Freight and UPS 3 Day Freight rates for shipments within and between the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico will increase 4.9 percent.
