Two California nursery associations plan consolidation

The California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers and Nursery Growers Association plan to have a unified organization by fall 2018.

The California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers and the Nursery Growers Association are working toward unifying into one organization that will promote and protect the nursery industry. The two California associations have been discussing coming together for years. However, it appears that time has finally come. The organizations have a plan in place and a stated goal to have a new organization in place by this fall. A new name has not been announced at this time.

In November 2017, the two organizations had a joint meeting. Each board expressed the need for one strong organization to represent the nursery industry in California. A task force was formed as a first step toward accomplishing this goal. Last month, the task force met with a strategic facilitator and created a detailed plan for the development of a unified organization.

This plan received unanimous approval from both organizations' boards, and the process is underway.

The two organizations have begun circulating a document stating the reasons behind the move. It states, "By speaking with one voice, we are stronger. By aligning resources we can accomplish more." The release further states the organizations' plan to create a more nimble and responsive organization structure that will aim to be understanding of business needs, and provide more convenient opportunities to connect fellow members, and more voices in government to represent the nursery industry.
