Canadian government invests money in horticulture

The Canadian feds gave $65,000 to support marketing efforts

The Government of Canada is investing more than $65,000 to help the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association raise the profile of Canadian horticulture products, said Dean Allison, Niagara West-Glanbrook member of Parliment.

"Canada grows a wide variety of high-quality horticultural products, and it is important to actively promote them," he said. "This investment will allow the industry to build on its success and pursue new marketing opportunities."

The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association will use this investment to support a variety of marketing activities that include the ongoing development of the Canada Brand for Canadian-grown nursery stock, participation at the International Plant Fair in Germany, and the development of a promotional strategy for the sector's buy-sell web portal.

"This support from the Government of Canada allows our industry to effectively explore and access foreign markets that we would not otherwise have the capacity to do on our own," said Victor Santacruz, executive director of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. "This project allows our industry to better manage our foreign trade exploration and risks by developing market studies, trade missions and intelligence specific to our industry."

This federal investment is provided through the $88 million AgriMarketing program, under Growing Forward, which helps industry associations implement long-term international strategies which include activities such as international market development, consumer awareness and branding and industry-to-industry trade advocacy.
