According to a press release, the American Floral Endowment (AFE) has a new research funding process, as well as a revised application for 2019.
In years past, AFE required researchers to submit a pre-proposal application and then another if their research was preliminarily selected by the AFE committee and industry members.
“We realized the time constraints on researchers, and in an effort to help streamline their requests for research funding, we developed the new process”, said AFE research coordinator Dr. Terril Nell, according to the press release.
AFE also is changing its research priorities based on industry feedback. Pest and disease issues such as thrips and Botrytis are the top of the list. Other priorities include postharvest technology, advanced breeding technology, production improvements and automation resulting in labor savings.
AFE also released a video where Nell details the organization's 2019 plans.
