GREENSBORO, N.C. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted federal registration of Advion fire ant bait for use in field and container-grown ornamental nurseries, sod farms, and pastures grazed by horses and other companion animals.
“Advion fire ant bait has proven to be a reliable, effective product for fire ant control in the turf and professional pest management markets,” said Gregg Wisniewski, insecticide brand manager at Syngenta. “Now nursery growers can take advantage of this fast-acting bait to prevent fire ant build-up in and around their operations.”
Advion fire ant bait controls foraging worker ants within 12 to 48 hours and delivers total colony control within 72 hours. Unlike commonly used insecticides, Advion fire ant bait does not need to be watered in and does not require contact activity. Ants will actively seek out the bait and bring it back for the entire colony to eat, including the queen.
“With only two applications needed for year-long control and low use rates, Advion fire ant bait can help save time, money and resources,” said Wisniewski. “With this economic advantage and the speed of control, this product is a powerful new addition for nursery growers.”
