Herbicide
Gowan Company introduced SedgeHammer+ herbicide for nutsedge control. SedgeHammer+ is labeled for use on established woody ornamentals, fallow areas and cool and warm season turfgrasses. SedgeHammer+ contains a dry, non-ionic surfactant in the formulation, eliminating the need for additional additives when mixing. SedgeHammer+ has a federal EPA registration and is currently registered in 39 states. The following states have pending state registrations: CA, NY, MT, WY, UT, CO, NM, ND, VT and ME. Best ideas book
In celebration of its 10th anniversary of planting pride in America, America in Bloom has released the book, "Ten Years of Best Ideas." The 214-page book is a compilation of the best and brightest practices in AIB's nearly 200 participating towns. It also features essays written by 14 towns on the benefits of participating in the annual program. The ideas can be used by cities of any size as a starting point for planning civic improvements. Biological insecticide
NoFly biological insecticide from Natural Industries Inc. has received EPA registration and is approved for use in greenhouse production for ornamental crops. It will control whiteflies, aphids and thrips. NoFly is formulated with the spores of the Paecilomyces fumosoroseus strain FE 9901. This beneficial microorganism is a naturally occurring fungus and a common pathogen to insect pests. It can be applied at all life stages of the pest with a rapid infection cycle. NoFly does not target beneficial insects and is compatible with many synthetic and natural insecticides. READER SERVICE #55
