Name: Acer saccharum ‘JFS-KW8’ Common name: Autumn Fest maple Description: Flaunting fall color so bright, “you gotta wear shades,” this new sugar maple cultivar is a standout in the field and in the landscape. Brilliant orange-red to red fall color appears early in the season. Summer foliage is a deeper shade of green than is typical of sugar maples. Form: An ideal street tree shape is formed by upright growth habit and strong branch angles. A dominant central leader assures the development of symmetrical, oval canopy that is narrower than the typically rounded sugar maple shape. More upright and faster growing than is typical of the species, Autumn Fest reaches a height of 50 feet and a spread of about 35 feet in about 20 years in a typical urban landscape. Hardiness: USDA Hardiness Zone 4. Culture: Grow in full sun. Uses: Excellent street tree. Propagation: Bud onto seedlings of Acer saccharum. For more: J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., www.jfschmidt.com. |
